Analysis Part 2 - Camera
The camera work that was used was slightly varied and a lot of tests we tried obviously did not make it into the final product. One example of material that ended up dead on the cutting room floor would be that of the filming we did in the lower site’s hall where we attempted a tracking shot by putting a couple of pairs of roller blades on the bottom of each tripod leg (this fail horribly though as the skates kept falling out from underneath it).
When filming the shots of the outside I simply used the camera without a tripod and panned from one side to the other in a slow manner to show the surrounding sky and give a more dynamic view instead of having too many static shots, because of this it was easier to then edit in later with things such as cross dissolves. A tracking shot was also used when I was in the park as I was moving around doing the lip synching, Jake was in one place following my movements so that all the lip synching sections weren’t just shots of me standing in the centre of the camera at middle distance moving my mouth up and down as though someone had a string on my jaw moving it up and down to audio like Larry King is now days.
A variety of shots were used from extreme close ups to long shots as one can see when watching. A long shot was used when I was on top of the rugby post over the park while and an ECU was used when the only things that was in the frame were my eyes. The long distance for that particular scene was used to display not only the scenery of the sky behind me but also the to symbolize how I was lot in thought so I was at a distance not only from the camera but from the world, while on the other hand the ECU displays the opposite as its so close to my face to show that I’ve come crushing down into reality and have realised what I’ve lost as I then shout “I can’t sleep!”
In the 8-section of the music video I filmed my self on stage though the thing with this is instead of just doing the one take we done multiple shots from different angles as one is a long shot another is a medium low angle shot and the other is a medium shot from my side at eye level.
