In Hind Sight

Phallosentrism

Phallocentrism is something that exists in not just about all media texts, but also we are surrounded by it everywhere in the real world. Phallic like objects are things like the name suggests appear similar to or represent the male phallus. Things that often represent this are things such as weapons or cigars as one in the western world can point out certain cinema icons such as James Bond is as popular as he is for such things while eastern and in particular Japanese audiences will point towards Cloud strife or Sephiroth although they may seem feminine in some appearance the two carry weapons that are bigger than they themselves are as well as architecture.

This applies to the music video in the form that one boy is lusting after another (is there anything more phallosentric than homosexuality)? A number of like sexual imagery is used through out my music video such as the protagonist is doing lip-synchronization while sitting on a pole, the part where the protagonist lights the cigarette in the mouth of the second character etc. Phallosentrism plays very heavily in my music video and thus many images and ideas put across may be rejected by feminism.

Feminism

The feminist view point when looking at the text of the media is one that always takes a piece of media and looks at gender presentation. By this I mean I mean they will take a piece of media text and compare how women are portrayed in comparison to the men i.e. whether they are represented as equals to the male characters or whether they are merely seen as the object of erotic desire to the male and/or are treated as such or like some kind of helpless, defenceless frightened kitten.

Feminists we're outraged by Megan fox's 'performance' in both the transformers films as well as many other people. I mean come on, A woman who knows something about cars? That's just ridiculous.

One could apply this theory to the music video but in some ways show how the feminist groups the world over may dislike it. For one thing there is no female in the music video except for a couple of seconds in the beginning and the end. It makes one wonder though whether or not the feminists would completely dislike the work as phallus-centric as it is, it doesn't have women as the object of sexual desiring and whether females are being treated as respectable members of society based solely on their sex is up to the viewer whether they see the absence of females as a bad thing or not.

It's Finally Finished

I can't believe it's finally done (^__^). I'm quite pleased with it and hope everyone else who watches it likes it as well. I hope to get lots of response so please leave a comment or drop me a message etc.

Editing well under way

I've finally got in gear and started doing my editing on the imac and I must say I don't understand why everyone moans so much about it. It's honestly the easiest thing to do and other than my iMovie turning off a few times it isn't that bad at all and rather enjoy. (The running home for my camera because I realized I hadn't put all the footage on not so much). I'm quite confident when I say all work will be finished for friday and I hope that you all enjoy it.

Last Moment Change of Heart

Today I had bit of a realisation that my music video as good as it was coming seems a little generic and quite a lot like everybody else's, so with a bit of last moment clarity (not quite sure if that's worded quite well) I've decided to not use a lot of the footage I got and film something else in the space of a day if I can get my friend to help me. The idea in my head feels a lot better than the last lot and hopefully I can pull it off and get everything in by the deadline. Hopefully this isn't me just being mad and does actually give the music video some meaning or quality that I feel the other work was missing. (Everyone wish me luck that it goes well, and if it does I wonder what your reactions will be).
